Dimensional weight calculator

Carriers bill whichever is greater: actual weight, or dimensional weight (length × width × height divided by a divisor each carrier sets). A light but bulky box can cost far more than its weight suggests.

You’ll be billed on dimensional weight.

Which divisor applies?

The divisor is set in each carrier’s tariff and can differ by service (domestic or international) and by account. A smaller divisor means a higher dimensional weight. Common values are 5,000 and 6,000 cm³/kg (139 and 166 in³/lb). Always check your carrier’s current rate guide.

Reducing dimensional weight

  • Use the smallest box that protects the item; every centimetre counts on all three sides.
  • Measure at the widest point including bulges; that is what carrier scanners measure.
  • For flat, light items, a padded mailer often avoids dimensional pricing altogether.
